Each face of the cube is a transparent filter in cyan, magenta, or yellow, the three colors printers use to build every other color. Turn the cube, look through the overlapping faces, and watch new colors appear as the filters mix and subtract light.

How it works

White light is a mix of red, green, and blue. Each filter takes one of them away: cyan blocks red, magenta blocks green, yellow blocks blue. Look through two faces at once and only one color is left. Look through all three and nothing gets through.

Cyan over magenta leaves blue. Cyan over yellow leaves green. Magenta over yellow leaves red.

It's subtractive color mixing, the same principle behind printing and photography, in an object you can hold. No batteries, no screen. Just light doing what light does.
